Internal timber, external timber, and more

At North West Timber Treatments (NWTT), our timber range spans everything from rough-sawn softwood through graded structural timber to planed joinery and garden timber - providing a one-stop shop for virtually any project.

Our main timber sub-categories of developed timber solutions include:

  • Rough-sawn softwood - A wide selection of rough-cut timber in multiple thicknesses (from 10 mm up to 200 mm), ideal for structural framing, basic carpentry, or utility uses where planed or finished timber isn’t required.

  • Graded softwood (C16/C24) - Structurally graded timbers, suited for load-bearing applications such as roof timbers, floor joists, stud walls, and general build work.

  • Planed All Round (PAR) softwood - Smoother, planed timber (e.g. redwood or whitewood), better suited for internal carpentry, or timbers where a finished look or easier handling is required.

  • Cladding, flooring, and joinery timber - Including cladding boards, tongue & groove boards, floorboards, window boards, primed MDF or skirting/architrave, softwood door casings, and other interior finishing timbers.

  • Fencing, decking, and external timber - A broad assortment of fence panels, posts, sleepers, decking boards, and external-use timbers suitable for garden, landscaping, boundary, or outdoor build projects.

  • Sheet materials and panels - Plywood, (Oriented Strand Board) OSB, and other sheet materials for sheathing, sub-flooring, structural work, or non-timber builds where panel materials are required.

Treated and cut to offer consistent dimensions*, you can complete a wide range of DIY or professional projects, safe in the knowledge that your materials won't let you down.

Specifications, quality, and sustainable sourcing

Understanding the right timber for a project can make all the difference. So we prioritise clarity, quality, and responsible sourcing for all of our timber products.

This includes being clear on what we offer, such as:

  • Quality and grading standards – Our range includes ungraded rough-sawn softwood for general/unrefined work, as well as graded softwood (e.g. C16 and C24) for structural integrity where load-bearing or regulatory compliance is required.

  • Surface finish options – From rough-sawn timber to planed-all-round softwood, cladding, decking, flooring, and construction-grade materials: we give you the choice between functional rough timber and smoother planed or finished timber, depending on your project needs.

  • Sustainable, certified timber – NWTT is committed to environmental responsibility. We stock timber that is certified under FSC and/or PEFC chain-of-custody schemes (where availability allows), ensuring a high proportion of our products come from sustainable sources.

  • Transparency and flexibility – For many external timbers or internal joinery-grade products, we can provide FSC/PEFC certified material - simply request this when ordering.

This makes it easier for you to choose the right timber that meets both your performance requirements and environmental standards - whether you are shopping for planed timber, timber cladding, or pressure-treated timber for an outdoor environment.

Buy timber you can trust

No matter what you are working on, the outcome can only be as good as the timber you are using. Poor quality oriented strand board (OSB) or an incorrect moisture content in decking or construction materials can spell disaster for the end result.

As such, no matter what you need in wood stock, no matter your construction or project type, our family-run team at NWTT has made it our mission to ensure the whole range meets - or even exceeds - your expectations.

So, browse our wide range of construction-friendly timber, and if you want to check stock, specifications, or even ask about a trade order, feel free to get in touch. You can call us on 01942 720 777 and ask any questions you might have.

Plus, as we offer delivery across the North West or collection from a range of local branches, we've got you covered.

Timber FAQs

Essential timber information

Please be aware that all of our timber products - including fencing, structural, joinery, and decorative timber - are natural materials and may display characteristics inherent to wood.

While many of our timbers are seasoned (kiln-dried) to reduce internal moisture and minimise movement, such as bending, twisting, or warping, some movement may still occur over time due to environmental conditions.

As a natural product, timber may also exhibit the following features:

  • Splits and shakes (natural cracks or separations in the grain)

  • Knots and knot holes

  • Colour variations between boards or within the same piece

  • Grain pattern differences

  • Surface checking or minor imperfections

  • A difference in sizing - this could be in the thickness, length, or width

  • Distortion after pressure treatment – joinery and kiln-dried timbers may distort after treatment, which is beyond our control and non-refundable

These characteristics are not considered defects, but rather part of the unique beauty and authenticity of real wood. We recommend allowing timber to acclimatise to its environment before installation and following best practices for storage and handling.

If you have specific requirements for appearance or performance, please contact our team before making a purchase.

Can timber be supplied in consistent dimensions?

As with most timber suppliers, stock may not come within the boundaries of consistent dimensions. This means all advertised timber dimensions are approximate and not finished sizes.

However, if you need your wood cut to specific sizes, for a construction, timber cladding, or decking project, for example, we pride ourselves on personalised service and are happy to source specific timber types or sizes if they’re not on-site or can't be cut to the right length or width.

Who needs kiln-dried wood?

Usually reserved for timber used in construction and furniture-making, kiln-dried wood has a lower moisture content.

It accelerates drying, improving wood quality faster and more reliably than natural air-drying, making it an essential step for some soft or hardwoods alike - it just depends on their intended use.

Can NWTT assist with a trade order?

We know first-hand how a material like timber/wood is essential for the construction industry in the UK.

As such, whether you have larger projects or even trade accounts, we support contractors, tradespeople, and public-sector clients.

Simply contact our sales team for pricing, bulk supply, or trade-level support.
