What makes vertical fence panels different?

Also known as vertical weatherboard panels (VWB) or closeboard panels, this style is constructed using overlapping feather-edge boards, positioned vertically.

They come in a range of heights alongside the standard 6-foot width, from 2x6 right through to 6x6, with a choice of:

Round-top fence panels

Heavy-duty treated flat top panels (brown)

Untreated flat top fence panels

For this reason, if you want to boost the aesthetic appeal of your garden with a modern touch, vertical fence panels could be the solution for you.

Which style of vertical weatherboard panel should I choose?

With different types of VWSs to choose from, how do you know which is right for you?

Round-top panels

Thanks to the softer, curved lines, round-top panels offer a combination of aesthetics and function - perfect for complementing landscaping

Less modern in feel

Heavy-duty flat top panels

Thanks to the reinforced materials, vertical fence panels are ideal for exposed or windy locations

Easy to treat and repaint as needed

Modern finish that will blend in with most styles

Standard flat top panels

Easy to treat and paint/stain

Modern finish that will blend in with most styles

Once installed using timber or concrete fence posts, installation can take just a few hours, but make a huge difference.

How to maintain vertical fence panels

As with most timber fence panels, standard panels usually last for around 5 to 10 years, while pressure-treated panels can last  10-15+ years if cared for well.

To ensure you get the best from your new fencing, you should:

Brush fences with a soft brush and a mild detergent once a year in spring or early summer

Apply a UV-resistant wood stain or preservative to prevent decay every 1-2 years
