Our primed MDF profiles arrive factory-primed and ready for a topcoat — a smooth, knot-free face with no knotting solution or grain filling needed before painting. Matching profiles run right across the range, so skirting boards, architrave and window boards can be specified together for a coordinated finish.

Why primed MDF?

MDF is dimensionally stable and machines to a crisp profile, so mitres close cleanly and long runs stay straight. With no knots or grain to block out, the factory primer means one or two topcoats gets you a finish that would take three or four on bare softwood - which is where most of the time saving on site comes from.

The trade-off is that MDF is not suitable for external use or anywhere persistently damp, and cut ends need sealing before painting. For bathrooms and utility rooms, specify a moisture-resistant grade.

Completing the room

Order MDF architrave in the same profile as your skirting so door surrounds and wall runs match, and MDF window board to carry the same primed finish through to the reveals. Specifying all three together avoids the mismatch you get when profiles are bought in separate batches.

Timber Information

Please be aware that all of our timber products—including fencing, structural, joinery, and decorative timber—are natural materials and may display characteristics inherent to wood.

While many of our timbers are seasoned (kiln-dried) to reduce internal moisture and minimise movement such as bending, twisting, or warping, some movement may still occur over time due to environmental conditions.

As a natural product, timber may also exhibit the following features:

Splits and shakes (natural cracks or separations in the grain)

Knots and knot holes

Colour variations between boards or within the same piece

Grain pattern differences

Surface checking or minor imperfections

Nominal sizing – all timber dimensions are approximate and not finished sizes

Distortion after pressure treatment – joinery and kiln-dried timbers may distort after treatment, which is beyond our control and non-refundable

These characteristics are not considered defects, but rather part of the unique beauty and authenticity of real wood. We recommend allowing timber to acclimatise to its environment before installation and following best practices for storage and handling.
