Interior doors - designs galore!Â
Just as with external models, internal doors come in a wide array of designs and styles - allowing you to choose one that coordinates with or artistically contrasts your current decor.Â
In most instances, the entire range can be split into 4 main design types:Â
-
Glazed doorsÂ
Glazed doors feature a built-in glass panel to allow for uninterrupted light flow and clear lines of sight.Â
They are ideal in public areas of the home or business, like living rooms, kitchens, common rooms, or open-plan offices, but given their glass inserts, they aren’t commonly used in areas that require more privacy, like bathrooms or private meeting rooms.Â
-
Wooden interior doorsÂ
If timeless elegance and natural beauty are your thing, wooden inside doors are the ideal choice.Â
Available in a variety of panelled designs and colours, wooden internal doors also give you plenty of personalisation options.Â
-
Coloured doors
For those who want to make more of an impact with their interior doors, why not consider letting colour do the talking?Â
Choose from beautiful blacks, gorgeous greys, bright whites, and warm chocolate shades for a modern touch.Â
-
Panelled doors
Suiting those who like the modern style, traditionalists, and everyone in between, panelled internal doors come in an almost endless array of designs.Â
With 2, 4, and 6-panel arrangements and panel styles that include staggered, raised, glazed, and flat - finding just one you like best might be tricky!Â
Â
How to hang wooden indoor doors
To replace interior doors yourself, follow our top tips below!Â
-
Remove the old door by unscrewing the screws holding it in place in the hinges.
-
Prop the new door in place to check that it will fit. You should check the top, bottom, and both sides.
At this point, if it does, go straight to step 3.Â
If it’s too large, you’ll need to trim down the door to ensure a fit that allows for finished flooring clearance. We recommend adding 3mm to each end to be sure.
-
Prop the door in place again, ensuring there is a 3mm gap between the door and frame all around the edges.
-
Use a pencil to mark the position of the hinges in the frame onto the door. Then draw around the hinges on the side of the door to ensure they will match.Â
-
Using a chisel, remove the door material that is beneath the hinge to make a recess.Â
-
Screw the hinge plate to the door using the provided screws.Â
-
Stand the door up and position it at 90 degrees before adding the screws to secure the door and hinge to the frame. Screw the bottom hole of the uppermost hinge first, followed by the bottom hole in the lowest hinge, then the top hole in the top door hinge.Â
-
Test the door opens and closes smoothly, without catching.Â
-
Add the door handle or varnish/paint the door if you are going to do so now.Â
-
Add the final remaining screws.Â
Alternatively, you can ask a local carpenter or handy-person to fit it for you!Â
