NWTT (North West Timber Treatments Limited) is a well-established, family-owned timber and construction supplier with seven depots situated throughout the North West of England.

Since 1986, NWTT has grown into a leading regional timber and construction supplier, employing more than 90 people across seven depots. We specialise in timber treatment, sawmilling, fence-panel production and bespoke joinery.

With continued year-on-year growth, we are investing in our people, technology and online presence to provide an even better service to our trade and retail customers.

Our transport team is currently looking for an experienced and dependable HGV Class 2 Driver to join NWTT, completing local deliveries of timber and building products throughout the region.

This is a customer-facing role offering local routes, a modern fleet and the benefit of being home every night. The role requires a minimum of one Saturday per month throughout the year, increasing to two Saturdays per month during peak periods. Saturday hours are paid as overtime.

Job Purpose

The HGV Class 2 Driver is responsible for delivering timber and building products safely, efficiently and professionally to trade and retail customers throughout the region.

The successful candidate will ensure that loads are transported securely, vehicles are operated safely and legally, and every customer receives a friendly and dependable delivery service.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Driving and Deliveries

Deliver timber and building products to trade and retail customers.
Complete local delivery routes safely, efficiently and on schedule.
Check delivery paperwork and ensure the correct products are delivered.
Obtain the required customer signatures or proof of delivery.
Communicate delays, access problems or delivery issues promptly.
Represent NWTT professionally while on the road and at customer premises.

 

Vehicle and Load Safety

Carry out daily vehicle checks and report defects promptly.
Ensure loads are secured safely and legally before departure.
Check that the vehicle is suitable for each assigned load.
Operate vehicles in accordance with road traffic laws and company procedures.
Maintain accurate driving, vehicle and delivery records.
Keep the vehicle’s cab and working areas clean and presentable.

 

Customer Service

Provide friendly and professional service on every delivery.
Communicate clearly with trade and retail customers.
Handle products carefully and respect customers’ premises.
Respond appropriately to customer questions and delivery concerns.
Report any complaints, shortages or damaged goods to the appropriate colleague.

 

Teamwork and Transport Support

Work closely with the transport, yard and branch teams.
Assist with the safe loading and unloading of vehicles where required.
Follow delivery instructions provided by the transport team.
Support the efficient day-to-day operation of the transport department.
Follow all company policies and health and safety procedures.
Undertake other reasonable duties to support the business when required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 

Essential

A valid HGV Class 2 driving licence.
A valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
A valid digital tachograph card.
At least one year’s Class 2 driving experience.
Good knowledge of local roads and delivery routes.
A safe, responsible and professional approach to driving.
The ability to carry out vehicle checks and complete delivery paperwork accurately.
Good communication and customer service skills.
Availability to work at least one Saturday per month throughout the year and two Saturdays per month during peak periods.

 

Desirable

Previous experience delivering timber, construction products or building materials.
HIAB experience or a relevant HIAB qualification.
Experience working within a timber or builders’ merchant.
Experience completing multidrop deliveries.
Knowledge of load-security requirements for timber and building products.
