FLT & WOOD MACHINIST OPERATIVE
Our successful Waterfoot Branch is currently looking for an experienced FLT & Wood Machinist Operative to join our yard and manufacturing team.
This is a hands-on role supporting yard operations while also carrying out timber machining duties. The role will involve operating a counterbalance forklift and using wood machining equipment such as a spindle moulder to produce timber components to specification.

The Role
Duties are varied and will include:
Operating wood machining equipment safely and efficiently, including machines such as a spindle moulder
Setting up machines, selecting cutters/tools, and making adjustments to achieve accurate finishes
Producing timber components to drawings/specifications and maintaining consistent quality
Measuring, checking and inspecting finished work to ensure accuracy and standards are met
Operating a counterbalance forklift to move stock safely around the yard
Loading and unloading vehicles safely
Storing stock safely and securely in the yard
Carrying out routine machine checks and basic maintenance, reporting defects/faults
Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment
Following all health & safety procedures and company policies at all times
Supporting the wider branch and manufacturing team with additional duties as required
Qualifications & Skills
Previous experience as a Wood Machinist / Joinery Machinist preferred
Experience using machinery such as a spindle moulder preferred
Counterbalance FLT licence required
Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately to specifications
Good understanding of safe working practices and machine guarding
Reliable, proactive approach and able to work well as part of a team
Advantageous:
Experience with other woodworking machinery such as planer/thicknesser, crosscut saws, rip saws, tenoner or mortiser
Experience reading basic drawings/cutting lists
Previous timber merchant, joinery or manufacturing experience

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £29,952 per year (based on 45 hours per week)
Hours: 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 5:00pm
Saturday Working: Saturdays worked on a rotational basis to meet business needs, 7:30am – 12:00pm
