World Environment Day 2021

This weekend we gather to celebrate World Environment Day – This is a very important day in our calendar as it is a key driving factor for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment. First held in Spokane, USA in 1974 organized by the United Nations, this celebration has been hosted by a different country year in year out and aims to raise awareness for many environmental issues such as marine pollution, human overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption and wildlife crime.

World Environment Day is important to us all as from forests to peatlands to coasts, we all depend on healthy ecosystems for our survival. This year’s theme is ‘Ecosystem Restoration’. We should invest in our ecosystems for the future as ecosystems are defined as the interaction between living organisms - plants, animals, people - with their surroundings. This includes nature, but also human-made systems such as cities or farms.

NWTT as a company try our best to reduce our carbon footprint and do our bit for the environment. We are registered with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC™) and certified to supply timber against the FSC™ and we are also registered with another scheme called the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) these standards are both promoting the responsible management of the world’s forests and caring for our forests globally.

Our chain of custody certification is a mechanism for tracking certified material from the forest to the end usage, to ensure that the wood, wood fibre or non-wood forest produce contained in the product line can be tracked back to the supplier and ensure legal logging. Our schemes help us to audit and promote, where required sustainability to our large contractors, councils, trusts and environmental customers that need to show their timbers are audited by a respectable, certified timber supplier.

This event can be celebrated in many different, unique ways such as through tree planting campaigns so why not do your bit by planting a tree in your garden and if you need a tree stake such as 1.8m x 75mm diameter machine rounded stakes are now 20% off online for this weekend only!
