NWTT: The Green Timber Merchant

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

Timber is one of the most valuable natural resources on Earth and so using it in a sustainable, environmentally-conscious way is essential. That's why NWTT maintain strict protocols across all aspects of our work, including the supply of at least 70% FSC and PEFC materials.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

Established in 1993, the FSC is a non-profit organisation committed to promoting responsible management of Earth's precious forests, an aim it achieves by setting standards on forest-sourced materials and certifying them as environmentally-friendly. Such products are branded with the distinctive FSC logo, proving that they come from sustainable sources and are both socially beneficial and viable economically.

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC)

The PEFC use 35 independent forest management systems which together represent over 300 million hectares of woodland all over the world; this figure makes is the largest such  forest certification system in the world, covering around two-thirds of the globally-certified forest areas. Working across international boundaries, the PEFC is a non-governmental organisation promoting sustainable forest management via third-party, independent certification.

Both the FSC and PEFC trade certificates allow for any purchased product to be directly traced all the way back to the very forest that the materials were originally sourced from. This ensures that biodiversity can be monitored and maintained, deforestation is kept to sustainable levels, trees are replaced once cut down and workers at all points of the supply chain are treated fairly.

NWTT have always been committed to environmental awareness and were one of the earliest adopters of both FSC and PEFC certification back in 2008. To find out more about our robust environmental policy, check out the dedicated pages on our website.
